What’s on ABC?

ABC-News

ABC has some shows on that I am beginning to become interested in. so let’s dive in night by night shall we?

Tuesday night at 8:00 is Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I cannot begin to explain how excited I am for this. I love Joss Whedon and I am a fan of most everything he has put out, no matter how quickly networks pull it. He has a real grasp on language and his scripts don’t feel like, well, scripts. The actors always have a natural flow. Combine this with the Marvel stable of heroes and you have a win. My only concern is the time slot. 8:00 seems a little early to really delve in to some stronger storylines. But if anyone can make this work I believe it is Mr. Whedon.

At 9:00 there is “The Goldbergs”. I think this could be funny, but is America ready for full blown 80’s nostalgia? Can gen “x” handle the Wonder Years treatment? I know many of us who grew up groaning about how boring the 80’s were, are also some of the first to push for 80’s nostalgia. I hope this show lasts but I am not getting my hopes up. I will tune in as it looks funny. How could it not be you have Jeff Garlin, Wendy McLendon-Covey of Reno 911, and George Segal all making the 1980’s the new 1970’s.

Wednesday at 8:00 there is “The Middle”. This show is extremely funny and a very realistic portrayal of modern life. I watch and laugh from embarrassment because some of the situations hit so close to home. This show is not re-inventing the family sitcom genre but it does the genre almost pitch perfect. I cannot wait to see what is in store for the Heck family this year.

At 8:30 we have a new show, Back in the Game, that seems to be a little more serious about the family situation. Yes it is a half hour but it would appear to be a little heavier than say the middle. This show seems to have wonderful potential for comedy as well as drama. I have extremely high hopes for this. Plus who doesn’t love James Caan?

The-Neighbors-group Friday at 8:30 is “The Neighbors”. I overlooked this last year. We’ve seen this time and again, “ALF” “Mork and Mindy” “Man from UNCLE”, was really anything new here? NO! But the way they do it is hilarious. The classic fish out of water story that the entire family can watch. There is not enough of this on TV today. My daughter got me hooked and now I can’t wait.
