Let me first start by stating the obvious to me. I know I am in the minority here. I get it I understand it. That being said with what I pay a month for my particular television provider should be able to opt out of sports barrage. I know football is the number one revenue stream of pro sports. I get that I am one of the few who are not interested in watching grown men slam into one another for millions of dollars. I also know I am in the minority of watching people drive in circles for hours. If I wanted to see someone drive in circles for three hours at a time I would simply try to find that one restaurant in downtown Miami, I easily get lost is what I am saying. But there must be something out there for those of us who are not sports fans. I know sports pay the bills, whether in education or in broadcast it is the money-maker, but can we do something please.
Currently things are a little better than they used to be. Back in the pre-cable/ satellite days you were held hostage if a game ran over time. Now at least I have the option of finding something else on. I no longer have to sit and wait but I am still held hostage in a manner of speaking. The timing of the end of the game seems to confuse my DVR. I get the last 15 minutes of the Cardinals Rams and the first 15 minutes of the Simpsons.
I don’t care about football but I do care about the Simpsons. Is there really no way the network, or program provider, can send a signal to my DVR and say “hey we can’t get a game that is supposed to be only 2 hours done in four hours so you will need to shift that recording”? There must be some way that my DVR can be shifted without my needing to manually update it to accommodate the sporting event I do not care about. Come on! I pay way too much to still have this as an issue.
And another thing. I have upwards of 20 different sports channels on my satellite. I got several ESPN’s as well Golf, NFL Red zone, and MLB channels. I even have two soccer networks; TWO I am American why do I need TWO SOCCER NETWORKS?
Okay sorry to the rest of the world I know you guys go nuts for a sport where when the score is 2-1 you consider it a run away. What my point is, is this: with all these sports channels can’t we just click over to them at the end of the time allotted for the game? I mean football is four quarters of fifteen minutes and half-time is, what another fifteen to thirty minutes? I get an hour and a half that allows for a half hour of commercials and you got a two-hour program. At the end of two hours perhaps the rest of us can watch our regularly scheduled programming and you can turn over to the networks sports affiliate or the sport’s own channel. I would even be OK with me tuning in to some sort of non-sports affiliated channel that gives me my shows without this nonsense. Have your broadcast channel run the sporting event and a secondary channel running the regular programming. But with the number of Networks that have sports affiliates surely it would be easier to have them shift to that channel for it. Plus it would increase viewership on those channels giving them more revenue. Not to mention the increase of people who will now “PAY” to get cable or satellite to get these channels.
I know I am alone. I know I am crazy. I know no one else gives a crap about this but me. All I am saying is I am 41 and I am tired of all the jocks that still riling my world. Since middle school they have been affecting my life and what I can and can’t do. Now they tell me when or if I can watch the shows I want. I want equality! I want fairness! Damn it I want my shows!!!! I’m just saying.
