R.I.P. 2013/2014

tombstone
We had some shows come and go this year. Oddly enough I think the lack luster season was tarnished by the loss of the few shows that really stood out to me. I think we have once again cancelled some things for low ratings that could have built an audience and one I think was cancelled for a fear of the possibility of bad press or law suits. I got to tell you any press is good press for some shows. Here are five that you should check out on your favorite binge view sight.

The-Neighbors-group5. The Neighbors. I over looked this one when it came out initially. I have seen this show before, Perfect Strangers anyone, or what about…I don’t know Mork and Mindy or even ALF? This has a shelf life of really three seasons. It puzzles me that our society can be summed up in just fewer than 100 episodes. Then of course there is switch flip and we learn about the alien culture in roughly two episodes before the alien wedding or birth give us a finale to laugh ourselves silly for. The neighbors started by introducing us to the alien culture which was too self-centered to actually take notice of human culture. Yes it had issues but it was clever and funny and well done. Too bad my daughter is going to miss this one.
intellegence4. Intelligence. You know I think that TV execs really think this technology thing might be here to stay. This was really chuck 2.0. Simply put we have an agent with a chip in his brain that allowed him to process giant amounts of data and handle CSI montage amounts of visuals for most of the episode. He could access anything and everything. This was even a man who did not appear to be your normal computer geek type who has now been forced to become part hacker and part soldier. This was fun, it wasn’t reinventing the genre or even taking to the next level but it was enjoyable. This was an hour that was fun and enjoyable. It was crime light. No heavy murders or 24 style society ending plots, but rather a skimming of the surface of both. Not too heavy or too dark but at the same time a show for grown-ups.
almost human3. Almost Human. This had issues from the start. Again a solid idea just a miss step on execution future cop partners with robot to solve crime. Not reinventing buddy cop genre. Not reinventing future sci-fi show. Not even pushing to the next level; but again decent idea. The writing was weak and predictable. The acting was average. The story ideas were typical. Again it was fun though. I even enjoyed watching it, sometimes uncomfortably, with my daughter. She was upset that this got cancelled. I was not surprised but I got like 30 years on her.
community2. Community. 6 seasons and a movie!!!!!! This was a genius idea. Most school oriented shows have a short shelf life but a community college? I still have friends who are still in community college trying to finish their degrees. They could be there forever and ever and ever. The writing was phenomenal. The acting was off the charts. This show should have been on longer than the Simpsons with Joe McHale eventual replacing Chevy Chase’s character in the final season. How funny would it have been to see Jeff become the new Pierce? Still holding out for the Inspector Space-time movie.
This_is_a_poster_for_the_FOX_sitcom_-Dads-1. Dads. Are you F!@#ING kidding me?!?! I mean really are we all this sensitive now? Where the hell is my country’s since of humor? This show is one of the funniest things I have seen on TV in forever!!!!! The irreverent humor made this show what we need now more than ever. Think family guy meets American dad live action. The acting was superb the jokes…I mean I cannot tell you how many times I had rewind and re-watch because I laughed over the next three jokes. No sacred cows here. Race? Not an issue everybody let everybody have it. This is truly a crime that this is not on the air any longer.
Those are five I liked that may not be back. Did I miss one you liked that is no longer with us? Let me know in the comments.
