What does ABC have to offer this fall? Let’s take a look:
Black-ish: this half hour comedy looks as though it may have some heart to it. From what I have found you have as successful African American family living the good life in the suburbs. This could really be any family trying to make ends meet and keep up with the kids. That alone could be a funny show; now add the dad who is going to probably spend most episodes uttering the line “in my day…” and now you have a modern comedy. As a school teacher no one believes the stories I tell about parents and students. My family thinks I am making this up. Most of them have only my grandkids and therefore have no reference for modern America. They are content to sit and watch endless hours of their respective news source or weather channel and complain about the other news source they aren’t watching. This could really open the eyes of a lot of people as to what modern family life is. And let’s be honest; is really any different today than when you were a kid? YES A LOT! This stars the always humorous Anthony Anderson as the modern dad. At his side second guessing his every move with an n over critical eye to the past will be played by Lawrence Fishburne. The cast alone is enough to draw me in for a viewing.
Forever: here is an hour long drama about a medical examiner who examines the dead to solve mysteries. The biggest mystery he is working on is the one of his own immortality. Remember New Amsterdam? I loved that show. Looks like ABC is trotting out this old story line. I hope it works this time. Starring Judd Hirsch how can it go wrong? About a million ways. My bet on this is it is gone before thanksgiving. That won’t stop me from watching and complaining when it gets cancelled, but brace yourself for the inevitable. I may not be immortal but I have watched enough TV to know when it isn’t going to work
How to Get Away with Murder: I like the premise here. You have a college class about forensics with a cool title. Then of course these young sexy students will no doubt have to actually figure out how to, well you know, get away with murder. Not sure how this is going to work at all. This is 6-5 you pick them. Not really enough information to make a decision as to whether or not watch this. This could also be an issue in and of itself. Why is there not anything really laying out the premise, story ideas, or anything at all on this beyond the title and a brief description that is really nothing more than a repeat of the title? Makes you think.
Marvel’s Agent Carter: after the success of Agents of Shield this is a no brainer. Cash in on the comic book craze and ride the wave of the Marvel Cinematic Universe all the way to success. This will no doubt be a period piece that focusses on, well, agent carter from captain America. We will see her struggle as a female in the work a day world of male dominated America in post war society. I am sure there will be references and Easter eggs galore for the eagle eyed fan. This will be a mid-season replacement show. So look for this late in the fall or early next year.
Again not much to go on in the way of new shows. ABC looks weaker than NBC. If the fall season continues on this way I will have a lot of free time to go back to writing my lists. Did I miss a new show from ABC you think could be good? Let me know in the comments. As always be sure to pick your favorite in the pole.
