What’s new form fox? As for me this fall the FOX line up looks pretty slim in terms of new shows.

Red band Society: This looks horribly depressing. We are dealing with a group of teens with various terminal illnesses that force them to live in a hospital setting. I am sure tween girls will love this show and fall for whoever the male teen heart throb is. I just cannot see myself tuning in week after to watch a bunch of teens that are inevitably going to die. And you know they will kill them off quick when they need to retool and bring in more teens to alter the demographic. This show is likely to be cancelled before November sweeps. It is just too depressing.

 
Gracepoint: a single series who dunnit. This seems to be taking a page form the hit HBO series True Detective in the respect we are going got see a single crime investigated over the course of a season. It’s only ten episodes so maybe fox is jumping into the smaller runs with more intensity that seems to work for the first tier cable channels. This could mean tighter stories and quicker pacing. I would love to see a network pull off the intensity of the short series like the Shield or Justified, but can they stick to their guns on short runs or will greed over take a hit show and force it to fit the time honored 20 plus episode run. This show looks good. A small town investigated for murder. No one is safe and everyone is a suspect. I expect a lot of twists and turns. The one flaw they have to avoid is balancing information. They can’t tell us who the killer is too early, we need to have our theories. They can’t jerk us around on giving us good hints either, with only ten episodes I doubt they will. I am definitely in on this one.

 
Gotham: Can a batman show work without Batman? Is Jim Gordon enough to carry this series? I know the mythos for batman is long and deep, insert sex joke here, but can we the viewer stand to see a young man waiting to be batman? This feels like Smallville. All the villains will be there in their pre-villain mode, or at least that is what they have promised. The joker will be heavily teased, and rest assured if there is a ratings issue he will be brought in. I think this could be a problem .if they give us the joker too early we will lose interest. We need this to be paced just right. We need this to really be the origin story not of the caped crusader but of the villains we love to hate. The joker cannot come out until at least season three. That should be the rule. Tease him all you want. Hell even hint heavy that he is the puppet master pulling the strings in season two but you cannot let him be revealed until season three. Any earlier and it will just feel hokey without batman to best his plans. I hope beyond hope that this show carries on for several seasons. I hope this works. I am a batman fan and I want this to work.
