What’s on NBC

NBCUniversal Logos

NBC has almost always been a staple in my life. From the family sitcoms, family ties & Cosby show,to the workplace dramas, Hill Street Blues & St. Elsewhere. I have watched NBC and not just on Thursdays so what do they have for me this season?

blacklistMonday’s at 10:00 is The Blacklist starring  James Spader doing what he does best, being super creepy. This is going to be so off the charts. I have no doubt that this show will push beyond the level of creepy crime drama that already exists out there. I really hope that NBC lets this show make Criminal Minds look like Romper Room . They have the cast for it. This is the one I really can’t wait for this season. This show has endless possibilities and I want to see all of them right now!

REVOLUTION-300x235 Wednesday night at 8:00, this is a big night I got three shows in the same time slot…time to upgrade the DVR, Revolution. This show came out of nowhere last season. This is a classic slow play in character and story development. The trick is to give enough without giving it away and also to take your time but not to go so slow that we lose interest. A delicate balance but one they achieved. Seeing the new ads I am a little nervous with this firefly thing. This show is good but not good enough to deal with too much tinkering in the off-season. Please do not change too much here it could spell disaster.

ironsideAt 10:00 is Ironside. This is a remake of a classic from the1970’s. Blair Underwood is playing the title character and I think this could be good. I am afraid that if it is too good we will end up with a remake of Mannix, and I don’t think anyone wants that. Put quite simply this is a standard police procedural but the main character, Robert T. Ironside, is confined to a wheel chair. That is it. I expect witty lines and tough situations where we see the actions of not a handicapped but handi-Capable officer.  I have high hopes but low expectations. It worked for Hawaii 5-0 can NBC pull this off? I hope so.

welcome-to-the-family-nbc-04-550x309Thursday nights are starting to look like the old NBC we all grew up with. We have four half hour comedies followed by the drama. So at 8:30 is where I begin my evening here. Welcome to the Family is probably the weakest show in the lineup. I say this sight unseen, this is just my guess and it would not be the first time or last time I was wrong. You have a couple of things happening here. The clash of cultures a white family mixed with a Hispanic family. I somehow think we are going to learn we are all the same regardless of culture. We have teen pregnancy, NBC style, as everybody has graduated high school. This cast looks funny. Can be a better version of raising hope? Who knows? I am in I want to see this. I am also going out on a limb and saying this is probably the first thing NBC drops from the lineup, again hope I am wrong.

sean-saves-the-world-nbc-04-550x3099:00 Sean saves the World. I am thinking “Just Jack” with a daughter. This looks fun. It is a modern take on the modern family. Single gay dad raises daughter. A fresh perspective which if you watch closely you will see it’s the same old perspective with a slightly different voice. Sean Hayes is funny and I would love nothing more than to laugh my ass off through this one.

maxresdefault9:30 the triumphant return of Michael J. Fox in the aptly named Michael J. Fox Show to NBC’s Thursday night lineup. I guess the title generator was broken. My only concern is that once the jokes over his Parkinson’s runs out is there really anything left here? I hope so but I don’t think America will like this one. There is a real risk of alienating Americans who do not understand that families who are going through the high stress and serious illnesses use humor and reality to deal on a day-to-day. Will Fox push to keep it real against NBC’s need to please those who may protest the humor? I may be way out ahead of myself but I think at the very least this one makes some headlines and challenges us to look at how far political correctness has gone.

Parenthood promo_2At 10:00 is Parenthood. This is a second go round for a show modeled after the hit movie. This one works far better than the first. I love the stories I love the acting I love this show. I wish my family was more like the Braverman family. I wish we lived closer and spent more time together than we do but for now I have to tune in to see my surrogate family the Bravermans.

e2bcaac77ebede7d97fe62b1aadf53fbFriday nights at 9:00 is the return of Grimm. I love this. It is just enough cop show just enough drama and just enough fantasy. I wasn’t sure I was going to like this but after that first episode I was hooked. Can’t wait to see what sort of creatures will be featured in this season, and can I seriously get a little more of Monroe as the wolf please? As a matter of fact just a little more of all the vessen as their monster personas, please.

This is just the list of what I am watching. As always feel free to add your NBC fall show to the list in the comments section.
